With over 30 years of HVAC system and load calculation design experience, we’re able to provide our customers with high-quality design services for their projects. We understand the importance of finding the right sized system for your home or business and will provide professional guidance and results.
High ceilings, window placement, insulation coverage, and cardinal orientation have an enormous impact on how your HVAC system performs and the amount of heat-gain and heat-loss the different areas of your home or workplace encounters. These variables must be factored into the equation to ensure that your system is operating at optimal performance and efficiency levels. Our equation (or design process) mirrors ACCA Manual JTSD design protocols and ensures that the system you're investing in is custom tailored to every square inch of your home or business.
ACCA Manual JTSD contains the standards and protocols developed by Air Conditioning Contracts of America (ACCA) for the proper design and installation of HVAC equipment and duct work. These standards and protocols are represented by four different phases in the design process:
To accomplish optimal performance and truly achieve the efficiency rating your equipment is capable of, each phase of this design process is critical.
Manual J is an industry standard that describes a method for determining, basically, how “big” your air conditioning system should be for the size and type of house you live in. It’s required by most building codes nationwide, because only Manual J offers the precise determination of system size needed to ensure that your system lasts longer, operates efficiently, and actually makes you comfortable.
The design outputs from Manual T allow us to properly select, size, and locate the supply air diffusers, grilles and registers, and the return grilles to prevent drafts and stagnant air problems caused by improper sizing or incorrect equipment selection. It also gives us the ability to use manufacturers' comprehensive performance data, calculate pressure losses, and control noise.
The essential companion to Manual J, Manual S aids in selecting and sizing heating and cooling equipment to meet Manual J loads based on local climate and ambient conditions at the building site. Manual S covers sizing strategies for all types of cooling and heating equipment, as well as how to use comprehensive manufacturer's performance data on sensible, latent, or heating capacity for various operating conditions.
Finally, Manual D provides guidance on how to design the duct system, once the load calculation (manual J), proper equipment (manual S) and air distribution (manual T) have been determined. It focuses on how to determine the best duct design for the space that is available. It also includes information on how to properly size, insulate and seal air ducts.
During the design process, our engineers upload your home's attributes into our industry leading ACCA Manual JTSD HVAC design software to determine proper equipment capacity, identify compatible equipment, and design the correct duct layout. We use the outputs from the protocols listed above to present you with the best heating and cooling options and technical specifications for your home. From there you decide which route you want to go, and then we make it happen.
